That's a Wrap!

That’s a wrap, Abbey Roaders! After a farewell BBQ last night at Stanford University, all of our programs are now complete and this summer was a HUGE success!

We hope you have learned new skills, gained a greater sense of respomsibility, and immersed yourselves in different cultures.

As always, thanks so much for your support. We’ll keep posting throughout the year, and we hope to see you next summer! Good luck with the upcoming school year. — at Stanford University.

Diverse and Effective Diplomats

Today our students on Leadership Academy held a Model United Nations session at Stanford University.

The debate was lively and exciting as students discussed nuclear nonproliferation with confidence! Our directors and instructors were extremely impressed — it is clear that these students are ready for college.

Thank you, merci, gracias, and grazie!

It's bittersweet here at Abbey Road programs — all of our summer programs have come to an end with the exception of Leadership Academy, which wraps up tomorrow!

From Western Europe to Boston to SF Bay Area, we'd like to thank you all for making this our best summer yet. We are so grateful to have bright and motivated students like you!

International Relations at Leadership Academy

Our director of Abbey Road Programs, Dr. Arthur Kian, and Stanford PhD Candidate, Lonjezo, have been teaching classes this week at Leadership Academy and helping our students conduct research.

At the end of the week, students participating in the Model UN session will address the issue of nuclear nonproliferation. They've been divided up into groups of two or three. We're impressed by how hard they've been working!

Stay updated to hear more about their presentations! Wish them luck.

2012 Olympic Games

The London 2012 Olympics are the hottest topic of conversation in every country right now!

What is your favorite memory from this year's Olympic games? A particular race you enjoyed or location where you watched?

Be a bud of this blog and post them here!

Shaping Up for Model UN

Students on Leadership Academy are prepping their materials this week for Model United Nations!

After a weekend of delicious seafood, sandy beaches, and museum tours, it's time to get down to business and represent the interests of their countries. Some of the most notable places that the students visited are The Exploratorium, the San Francisco MOMA, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Monterey.

À votre santé!

The Western Civ group is feeling rather royal today as they get back to reality after visiting the magnificent palace and gardens of Versailles yesterday. They could not have picked a more beautiful day to explore.

After the visit, they enjoyed some delicious fondue — cheers to friends and traveling! Soon enough, everyone will have to return home. À votre santé!

Leadership Academy's UC College Visits

Students on our Leadership Academy program saw two different college campuses this week — UC Santa Cruz and UC Berkeley, or Cal.

On the first, students were amazed by the eco-friendly campus and exciting Santa Cruz beach boardwalk. They ate a vegetarian lunch that fit in well with the laid-back vibe of Santa Cruz. On the second, students loved how motivated the students seemed at Berkeley. They had fun searching for bear statues all over campus and seeing the beautiful view of San Francisco that Cal owns! Yes, we learned that they own air.

Our students find these college visits very helpful during a time of intense college applications! It seems that you can tell if you'd enjoy a college by spending a few hours on its campus.

Adios, Barcelona!

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Nice —> Paris

Students on our Nice program have said their goodbyes to those friends headed back home. The last night in Nice was filled with good food, dancing, and laughter!

Those who remain in Europe are enjoying Paris as an extension to their program. Staying right next to the Tour Eiffel, pas mal!

So far, students have had a tour of the infamous Red Light District and eaten well at a classic French Restaurant — at Tour Eiffel.

Enchanté, Paris!

Our Western Civ program is saying bonjour to Paris! They arrived in the morning and were able to unpack and relax for a few hours before exploring the city.

This afternoon, students visited the Sacre Coeur located at the top of Montmartre, and then indulged in a delicious crepe dinner! Which would you choose...sweet (nutella & banana) or savory (ham and cheese)?

Leadership Academy Has Kicked Off!

Hello again, Abbey Road students, parents, and followers!

My name is Lizzy Kinnard and I have the privilege of working as Abbey Road's intern on our Leadership Academy program at Stanford University.

What a phenomenal group of students from all over the world! I am amazed at how bright, diverse, and eager they are to learn about international relations, business, public speaking, environmental policy, etc...

Since students arrived last week, we've already toured Stanford, been to San Francisco (Fisherman's Wharf & Golden Gate Park) and captured some great shots of San Gregorio beach! Check out our photos.

Follow the Leadership Academy program blog during the next two weeks to stay updated on what the students are learning and where they are traveling: http://abbeyroad-leadershipacademy2012.blogspot.com/

I can already tell these next two weeks will be fantastic!

Nice -> San Remo

Today our students on the Nice program left France to go to Italy! First stop: San Remo, a beach town with great shopping, a snack bar, and volleyball right in the sand.

How relaxing it is to have such a great day at the beach. For dinner, students had focaccia, pasta, and tiramisu. Upon arrival back in Nice, they were allowed free time to spend with friends on their last night. No one wants to leave Nice tomorrow and head for home!
